Zephyr - Single Cell Prototype

We set out to create a minimum viable product prototype for Zephyr Mattress. The ultimate goal was to demonstrate height articulation with our novel cell. When implemented at full scale this will allow for our Postural Topography Technology (TM) to alter the sleeping surface for our patients - making their sleep easier.

Zephyr mattress is made of a matrix of oscillating, pressure sensitive cells. Each cell is both programmable and responsive to pressure stimulus.

The number of cells in a full scale Zephyr mattress allows for increased resolution and modularity. 

​

Current development: We are working to build an adjustable bed frame that can run with our cell program. Additionally we are looking for funding to scale up our single cell prototype to a testable full scale mattress.

A single cell is demonstrated in the video. As pressure stimulus is applied the cell expands to maximum desired firmness and then settles to set desired firmness, as long as pressure stimulus is applied, the mattress will continue to expand to allow user to adjust more easily.

This can be compared to jumping off of jello versus jumping off of a firm surface, the firm surface will allow more power in your movement.
